ULSIT gathered scientists from five universities on the World Intellectual Property Day


The University of Library Science and Information Technology - ULSIT celebrated World Intellectual Property Day - on April 26, with a scientific seminar, a tradition for 12 years. On a day when governments and organizations worldwide gather to celebrate ideas, creativity, and innovation, the boutique school brought together scientists from several universities to present their scientific achievements. Co-organizers of the forum are the Academy of Music, Dance and Visual Arts "Asen Diamandiev" - Plovdiv and Southwest University "Neofit Rilski" - Blagoevgrad.



The theme of this day, set by the World Intellectual Property Organization, was "Intellectual Property and the Sustainable Development Goals: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity". Bulgaria is a member of WIPO, and ULSIT is part of the international celebrations in the WIPO calendar.



Prof. Tereza Trencheva, Vice-Rector of Research and International Affairs opened the event and gave the floor to Prof. Irena Peteva, Rector of the University of Library Science and Information Technology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhan Pekhlivanov, the Rector of the Academy of Music, Dance and Visual Arts "Asen Diamandiev", expressed his satisfaction that the two boutique universities are hand in hand on intellectual property day.

Prof. Dr. Toni Shekerdzhieva-Novak, former Rector of the Academy of Music, Dance and Visual Arts "Asen Diamandiev" made a special address to the attendees at the event.

For the 12th year in a row, we have the pleasure and happiness to open the International Intellectual Property Day with a very high representation here in the solemn hall of ULSIT. This national forum with international participation is highly appreciated by important state institutions, as evidenced by the congratulatory addresses. I think that the traditions at the university that we have in celebrating the International Day of Intellectual Property, especially in the presence of one of the world's leading experts, Mr. Vladimir Yosifov, as well as our representative in the World Intellectual Property Organization, Dr. Dimitar Ganchev, are great for us honor, and an even greater honor is the presence of Mr. Mehti Melikov, director of the Copyright Directorate at the Ministry of Culture and today also the representative of the Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov.

On behalf of the Union of National Community Centers, Prof. Denchev presented Prof. Peteva with a geranium wristband, pointing out that at the 37th Congress of the Union, Prof. Peteva was honored as a Meritorious Community Centers Worker.

Sarafov ”, Assoc. Martin Zahariev from the Law and Internet Foundation, Ms. Ivanka Kirkova, Head of the Regional Department of Education - Plovdiv, lawyer Vasil Lazarov, Eleonora Nenkova - executive director of KFC for Bulgaria, Dr. Milka Petrova, deputy director of the 9th French language high school "Alphonse de Lamartine", Boyka Borisova - director of the Professional High School for Transport and Construction Technologies, Dr. Aliya Hanse, conductor of the Academic Opera Theater of AMTII, engineer Tanya Mihailova - director of the National Vocational High School of Precision Engineering and Optics, Ridvan Ahmed Zait - the owner of Sugarland - sponsors of the event, Stefan Marinkov - legal advisor of UBB INTERLEASE.


The plenary reports were:

"Patent and brand information - important and insufficiently known information sources for business and science" with lecturer Mr. Vladimir Yosifov - a world-renowned expert, "Development of intellectual property through the prism of academic entrepreneurship: the experience of the University of Food Technology" - lecturer: Prof. Dr. Eng. Valentina Nikolova-Aleksieva from the University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv.



"The role of data in the global publishing industry" - presented by Dr. Dimitar Ganchev, Deputy Director of the "Information Digital Products" Department, "Copyright and Creative Industries" Sector at the World Intellectual Property Organization.



The theme of the 12th National Seminar with international participation, which was created by the University Youth Academy for Knowledge Management - at ULSIT, was "Intellectual Property - Creativity, Innovation, and Sustainable Development", with 45 authors, 35 reports, and 4 panels, respectively thematically titled: "Academic Ethics in Universities", "Intellectual Property in Science and Arts" and "Youth and the Innovations of the Future".
